Samsung's UN46D6420U series HDTV - A Great 3D Experience

Samsung's UN46D6420U series HDTV televisions are a fantastic place to end your quest for a new 3D LED Television set. In spite of its inexpensive selling price, it's rich in features, and will increase your entertainment choices well beyond just watching television programs and flicks. Together with the many different Apps that make up Samsung's Smart TV Framework, you won't just watch television programs, you will be enjoying content coming from all over the Web - from Hulu Plus, You Tube, Facebook, Pandora, and a lot of additional sources. Samsung's advanced LED engineering helps make this set ultra-thin, and incredibly light weight.

The 3D functionality is one of the outstanding features of the UN46D6420U. Samsung employs what they refer to as the Active 3D method for presenting 3-d graphics on their LED HDTV sets. The trick to developing the 3-d impression is to ensure that each of the stereoscopic 3D images is seen only by the correct eye. This is done using two ways, generally known as "active" and "passive". Passive systems use eyeglasses with polarized glasses that work in tandem with polarizing filters that are a part of the TV display.

In the case of an Active technique, the 3-d glasses "actively" change from opaque to transparent by controlling the Liquid crystals that constitute the lenses. One eye or the other is blocked alternately, as the stereo frame for the right or left eye is being displayed on screen. The co-ordination is achieved by synchronizing the glasses using a signal transmitted out of the TV set.

The key to Samsung's outstanding 3D TV's lies in the Active 3D approach that we explained above. When you watch 3D on a Samsung set, each eye sees a full resolution 1080i HDTV image, directed alternately to each of your eyes. Those alternating images are shown at a frequency of at least 120 Hertz, insuring that each eye sees at least sixty images each second. Since each of your eyes perceives the full resolution representation, there isn't any decrease in quality of the 3-D picture. There are two types of eyeglasses available. One set requires batteries, the second variety is rechargeable, utilizing a USB port. The rechargeable glasses are very light, weighing merely one oz, but last for many hours of usage for every charge.

Samsung's Active 3D technique also allows you to "up-convert" ordinary 2D content and programming to what is known as "near 3D" appearance. Which means that the two-dimensional programming, either network programming, DVDs, or your private home video clips can be shown having the visual appearance of depth which is not otherwise seen in the original material.

The size of the TV display is an important aspect to consider when looking at a 3D television set purchase. The best seating range, for complete 3D impact, is 3 times the top to bottom size of the TV screen. For the 46" monitor (which has a top to bottom measurement of around 23"), the recommended watching distance from the screen should be roughly 67", or roughly 5.5 ft.

Although the Active 3D is one of the most awesome feature for this UN46D6420U, it is only a beginning of the big list of amazing features. This Samsung HDTV set comes packed with something that Samsung calls "Smart Apps" - tools that are their unique "Smart TV" platform. Those "Apps" allow you to use the Television to interface with the Internet, and also download Web content from sites like Pandora, Netflix, and Hulu Plus, among others.

While some of the "Apps" must be purchased for one or two dollars (much like iPhone apps), there is a very wide range of Apps that are free, including video games and children's content. Apps groups include categories such as Education, Sports, Videos, Lifestyle, Information, and Games.
